It all started on a little island off the coast of Australia. Sam Nothling grew up like most kids – knowing it all, and eventually finding out that maybe he didn’t.
Sam comes from a long line of Butchers. His Father and Grandfather had their own shops, as did his 3 uncles. Sam’s dream quickly became carrying on the family tradition; when his Father retired, he wanted to take over the shop. Little did he know he would carry on the family tradition, except his passion and heart, would lead him across the globe to Central Alberta.
“A gorgeous Canadian girl changed my plans for me.” Said Sam.
That gorgeous Canadian girl is Natasha, Sam’s wife, and co-owner of Stone 2 Steel Butchery, Central Alberta’s newest Butcher Shop.
“She’s the brains, I just do the manual labour” says Sam. “When you wake up every morning excited to go to work because you are doing what you love it’s already a good day. So between me being married to my wonderful wife and getting to run my shop, I’m a winner.”
Family is a big part of Stone 2 Steel. “The logo to my shop is actually an adaptation to my father’s shop logo! In Australia, the logo is a pig with a surfboard, so I wanted to honor both my father and grandfather for teaching me what I know whilst making it my own and a representation of the community I now call home.
While it may be a new home, the same values followed Sam from Australia. “I find it important to support the community because I spent a lot of my life in a small community that supported each other. I know the good that comes from people caring for one another.
Sam and Stone 2 Steel don’t just talk the talk when it comes to supporting the community. They walk the walk, partnering with Piece By Peace Nutrition from Penhold. Everything H20 in Sylvan Lake, Nossack in Red Deer and The Bakery in Spruceview to help with their Grand Opening!
