Christine and Val are the sister duo behind The Wooden Shoe Store and Coffee Shop. They started with just one shelf of Dutch goods, and now they have an entire aisle, along with an expanded soup menu, expanded ice cream selection, and tons of freshly baked goods! Not only will their Dutch cuisine leave a great taste in your mouth, their drive to support the community will too! The Wooden Shoe loves to support local events and efforts, like their continued support of the annual Bentley Rodeo. They’ve also provided trophies and prizing to local initiatives like the annual Show and Shine at the Village, the Bentley Curling Bonspiel, and the Lacombe Library Reading Program.
Christine and Val have spent a good deal of time bringing the comforts of home to your pantry, and have come to find an all new family in the welcoming communities of Central Alberta.
“We love not only our little village but all the surrounding communities of Lacombe, Ponoka, Rimbey, and Bentley. Being a business is more than paying taxes and selling goods. It’s participating in fundraisers and community events…you can only make each other stronger by supporting each other!”
Earlier in the year a young family lost their home in a devastating fire. The family at The Wooden Shoe came together to organize a pie fundraiser, which brought an overwhelming turnout. They made and sold an impressive amount of pies, and members of the community were more than happy to donate with or without purchasing a pie. It’s an amazing example of Central Albertans coming together to support one another. For these and many other reasons, The Wooden Shoe Store and Coffee Shop has proven that their commitment to our community is just as tasty as their fantastic food. That’s how The Wooden Shoe Amplifies our community!
